Yunik clears of the remains of war, Shehu: A Big Step Toward Security and the Future

The Yunik municipality has marked an important moment in its post-war history, successfully completing the process of fully cleaning up areas affected by dangerous war remains.

Mayor Ruzhdi Shehu, in a public report, described this achievement as a vital step to the security, well-being and future of Junik citizens, stressing that a silent wound that had endangered the lives of residents for years now lies in the past.

The demining and cleaning process is carried out by the international organisation HALO Trust, with strong support from international partners, especially the United States of America and Switzerland, which have played a key role in funding and supporting this humanitarian mission.

Today we marked a special moment for our municipality, the closure of a vital security process and the future of Yunik.

With the Organization's Enormity HALO Trust and the precious support of our international partners, especially the United States of America and Switzerland, managed to clear areas affected by the remains of war, a silent wound that has plagued the lives of our citizens for years.

I was honored to have the presence of top international representatives, including the American Embassy's employee in Kosovo. Annu Prattipati and Switzerland's ambassador to Kosovo. Jürg Sprecher, as well as many partners and associates who contributed to this great achievement.

Today, from border areas in the Yunik Bjeshket to the heart of the city, areas that once posed danger have become safe places for our community's life, development, and future.

I strongly believe that any cleared space is one more step towards security, toward trust and a better future for every citizen of Yunik.

Junik is safer today for a brighter future tomorrow.
