Suspected packages are being evacuated in Brussels train station

The Brussels-Midi train station was evacuated this evening after two suspicious packages were found on two separate platforms. Federal police reported that one package was found on platform 20 and the other on platform 18 at 5:20 p.m., promoting evacuation of both railway and subway sections [...]
All rail traffic to and from the station was suspended, causing major disruptions during peak hours.
The military disaster disposal service, known as DOVO, was also called to the scene to inspect both packages and determine whether they posed threats.
The incident occurred just a day after Brussels marked the 10th anniversary of the 2016 terrorist attacks. The attacks, aimed at the Maelbeek subway station and Zaventem airport, killed 32 people and injured more than 300 others in what is considered the worst peacetime massacre in Belgium.
Authorities say the trauma has highlighted the focus on intelligence and antiterrorism. The threat level in Belgium remains at the “heavy”, or three out of four, since Brussels' attacks in October 2023, when an armed person killed two Swedish football fans before being shot to death by police.
