Pope Leo XIV has reiterated his call for peace in the Middle East, calling for the immediate ban on violence and the return of dialogue between sides in the conflict.
During his weekly prayer in Vatican, the pope indicated that for two weeks people in the region have suffered the dire consequences of war.
Dear brothers and sisters, for two weeks Middle Eastern people have suffered the terrible violence of war. Thousands of innocent people have been killed and many others have been forced to flee their homes”, he said.
The Holy Father pointed out that he is near to all who have lost family members in the attacks that have hit schools, hospitals, and residential areas. He called on conflict indictees to stop escalating violence.
“In the name of Middle Eastern Christians and all women and men of goodwill, I address those responsible for the conflict. Cease fire! Let the paths of the” dialogue reopen, the Pope said.
According to the Pope, violence could never bring about justice, stability and peace that the people of the region expect.
