Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz has asked Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti “for further progress” in dialogue with Serbia, in a letter of congratulations he has sent to the new government mandate.

Merz, in his letter of congratulations published by the Prime Minister's Office, writes that ahead of Kurti “focus challenging task”.

Before you and your government stand challenging tasks. I am convinced that, with your experience, you will make the right and necessary decisions for further Euro-Atlantic integration of Kosovo. These include other advances in the EU-brokered normalisation dialogue with Serbia”, the German Chancellor writes.

Merz tells Kurt that “on these tasks”, Kosovo has “a strong and reliable partner” like Germany, “on its arm”, wishing them luck and success in the new governing mandate.

Merz's wish letter:

Mr. Prime Minister,

For your re-election, I warmly congratulate you. I rejoice at the opportunity to further deepen the close and friendly relationships between our countries.

Before you and your government stand challenging tasks. I am convinced that, with your experience, you will make the right and necessary decisions for further Euro-Atlantic integration of Kosovo. These include other advances in the EU-mediated normalisation dialogue with Serbia.

Be assured that Kosovo, on these tasks, has a strong and reliable partner in Germany on its side.

I wish you for the continuation of your mandate of great luck and success.

With heartfelt greetings

Friedrich Merz
Chancellor of Germany's Federal Republic
