Israeli police attacked a group of journalists outside Jerusalem's Old Town, including a CNN producer who suffered injuries on her wrist. On Tuesday, Muslim believers who were forbidden to pray at Al-Axa Mosque for wartime restrictions gathered outside the walls of the Old Town to perform the prayer.

But the police prevented them from praying and pushed them away.

Believers moved to a street within the nearby neighborhood near Waddy Al Joz.

Police then moved believers once again to a place near the walls of the Old Town, when, moments later, the officers threw smoking grenades towards the group.

Two journalists were detained at the scene as officers attacked them and damaged their equipment. Several other journalists at the scene who were documenting the incident tried to intervene, but were postponed.

In a statement, police accused reporters at the scene of refusing to follow orders, claiming they were “part of the” riots, reports Telegraph, broadcast Periscope.

The police statement went on to claim that “only after being detained by police, they were identified as journalists and later released”.

Israel's Union of Journalists dismissed the police statement as incorrect “”.

The Union called on the police commissioner to immediately suspend the officers involved and launch an internal investigation.
