Fear attack destroys Italian aircraft in Kuwait, says Italy's defence chief

The Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait, which accommodates American and Italian forces, became the target of today's fearful attack, reports CNN.

A remote pilot belonging to the Italian Air Force was destroyed in the attack, General Luciano Portolano said in an X post. It was a “as necessary for operational activities and had remained dislocated on the basis to ensure the continuation of operations” he said.

All Italian personnel at the base were safe during the attack, Portolano said.

The detection of Italian service members had been reduced in the days preceding the “attack in response to the developed security situation in the area”, he stressed.

Those who remain on the basis “are being deployed to carry out the mission's core activities” he wrote, adding that “situata is constantly being monitored by the Chief of Defence Staff and the Joint Operations Staff, which maintain continued contact with land contingents”.
