The chairman of this association, Latif Mehmeti, has indicated that according to the documentation collected over the years, 32 massacres on the civilian population by Serbian state, military, police and paramilitary forces have been carried out in all.
He has said that even after 27 years after the end of the war in Kosovo, our society continues to face a serious lack of full record of crimes committed during that period.
According to him, the debate over the number of massacres and victims still remains open, “ka shows that as a society we have done little in whitewashing, documentation and institutional treatment of massacres, murders and violations committed by the Serbian state in Kosovo”.
Latifi has stressed that he has also been promoted by the exhibition held in Pristina Square, feeling moral and civic duty that, “the function of truth, inform the public of the size of crimes committed by state, military, police and Serbian paramilitary units on the territory of the Podujevo municipality<1>.
He has indicated that since the end of the war, a wide and structured database has been built, containing detailed information about victims and the circumstances of crimes”, since the end of the war.
Mehmeti has stressed that, according to documentation owned by associations, a total of 32 massacres were committed in the Podujevo municipality. “in these massacres has lost the life of 159 people, including 39 children and 53 women. And over 100 others have been injured, bearing severe physical and psychological consequences that continue yet to be”, he was quoted as saying.
He has also made it known that the association is working on further documentation of these crimes and public opinion information, adding that “we are working to publish a book on massacres in Llap” in the near future.
According to him, this publication aims to serve as permanent historical testimony and as a step toward preserving collective memory.
