Confirmed Tubeculosis on cows

Farmer Dzevx Ferizi, in a statement to Radio Kosovo, indicated that 12 heads of cows will be eliminated as a result of these afflictions, while others have already died.

The first case of tuberculosis in cows has been confirmed on March 3, 2026 at the farm of Jevxh Feriz, a farmer in the village of Lubisht of the municipality of the Year.

Feriz says the damage is great and that their family business has been hit hard. He explains that at first, he has suspected the disease because cows have abortiond calves, while the diagnosis has been confirmed with the help of the veterinarian.

About 60 heads of cows, of which 12 have become ill. I don't have equipment to take care of them myself. I was told not to leave them in the pasture. Even though I don't have any animal food, because the food's been expensive”, Feriz said.

Meanwhile, his wife, Nerdjivane Feriz, says her family lived mainly from work on this farm and now faces serious losses, hoping in support from institutions.

“Normically, it's a big loss. We from the farm live. We have a family business. We're very worried, but hopefully the government will help us.

From the Food and Veterina Agency, Sadik Sadik Sadikheta, has confirmed to Radio Kosovo that in the municipality of the Year, several farms have been identified on occasion of brucloza and tuberculosis in cattle, respectively, milk cows.

The goal of annihilation is to eradicate the disease and compensate for the damage caused. We as authority, farmers have given all the advice and recommendations on how to handle this” situation, Sadiketa has said.

Sadique has urged farmers not to create panic, stressing that according to legal provisions, infected animals will be eliminated in order to prevent the spread of the disease, adding that the affected “fermers will be compensated for the damage caused”.

Under the legislation in effect, the annihilation of infected animals should take place within a 30-day term by confirming the disease. Bruceloza is an infectious disease that is transmitted through the consumption of unsistered milk, immature meat, or direct contact with infected animals and their secretions.
