AGK condemns the VV's dangerous campaign against journalists: Press Freedom Risked

The Association of Kosovo Journalists (AGK) has expressed deep concern for the promotion and denigration campaign to media and journalists in the country, which are coming from ruling party officials Vetevendosje. The AGK emphasises that MPs and representatives of this party, including Adnan Rrustem, Mefail Bajqinovci and Dejona Mihalin, have distributed statements alluding to <x0-page bags” in proportion to journalists, without offering concrete evidence.

According to AGK, these statements are irresponsible and constitute the continuation of a hostile approach to the media, seriously jeopardising press freedom and the safety of journalists in Kosovo. The organisation underlines that public accusations should be backed by concrete facts and names, while calling on all parties to refrain from rhetoric that undermines the media climate and public trust.

Dangerous anti-media campaigning in Kosovo
The association of Kosovo Journalists (AGK) is deeply concerned about a new wave of campaign against the media and journalists launched by officials from the country's largest political party, Vetevendosje.
MPs and other officials of this party, including Adnan Rrustem, Mefail Bajkinovac and Dejona Mihalin, have written and distributed material that speaks of <x0-page bags” in proportion to journalists.
Such denigrating campaigns by people of the ruling party are the continuation of a hostile policy of Vetevendosje and the Kurti Government towards the media in Kosovo, and seriously violating media freedom and journalists' safety.
This of the last few days comes in response to statements on a TV show, the production of BIRN Kosova, where we talk about how <x0).
The AGK considers that such general statements to the <x0Media online” and “twood television” are irresponsible.
Public accusation statements should be forwarded with facts, evidence and proper names.
The AGK invites all parties to refrain from such statements that seriously undermine the media development environment.
