Swedish Ambassador responds to Kurt: Integration of Serbian Education and Health in Kosovo System Through Brussels Dialogue

Sweden's Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonas Westerlund, has demanded that the integration of Serbian education and health into the Kosovo system take place within the Kosovo dialogue.

He in the discussion held on this topic at the Media Centre on Monday said Kosovo law should be applicable in 38 municipalities in the country, but added that integration into the Kosovo system should be made within Brussels dialogue.

“We believe Kosovo law should be applicable in 38 municipalities. I mean, integration should happen at the end on these issues. I have heard the prime minister in office, Albin Kurti, who says Serbian doctors and professors have taken our licenses and that this is a good sign and I hope the government in office will continue to review these issues. All citizens should receive education and health services in line with the demands of local communities. I think the important issue is that there will be no obstacles to health and education... This should be done with dialogue. We need to talk to local communities and this should be talked to the EU special representative. We consider that this should be done under that dialogue”, he said.

But he added that modalities must be found to take place in practice and to comply with laws and the Constitution.

I have sometimes insisted on starting to prepare for what I once called inevitable if that happens. This through finding the modalities of different types that would be suitable for the system in this Kosovo case. This fact I want to remember that in each agreement, it stressed that the agreement would be harmonised with the Constitution and the laws of Kosovo. Now whatever happens later will be in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Kosovo”, he said.

The incumbent Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, days ago has held a meeting with accredited ambassadors in Kosovo, where he has presented the goals for beginning the gradual integration of the Serbian health and education system in Kosovo, requiring co-ordination with the European Union.
