Sentenced to 15 years in prison in Switzerland, three Albanians who tried to take half a ton of cocaine

The Basel-Landschaft Criminal Court in Muttenz sentenced three Albanians Thursday (now) to 15 years in prison and 15 years in exile. In the spring of 2022, they tried to get a half-ton cocaine container hidden in coffee bags, broadcast albinfo.ch. They were condemned for serious violations of the Law on Narcotics. [...]
According to the indictment, they made preparations to possess and transport a large quantity of drugs. Their attempt to find the container from Brazil at the Swissterminal Transport Company facilities in Frankendorf, Basel-Landschaft, failed despite some efforts, writes Sda.ch. The shipment was later discovered at the Nespresso factory in Romont, Fribourg.
They wanted to steal 500 kilos of cocaine, worth 60 million Swiss francs, from a shipping container and transport it abroad.
The three defendants, aged 31, 34 and 32, have suffered approximately two and three years in preventative custody and detention respectively. The prosecution had sought prison sentences of over 19 years for each, while the defence had argued on release from the charges, albinfo.ch records, broadcasts Periscope.
Based on the results of the investigation, the office assumes that, between April 28th and May 2nd 2022, some persons apparently included the three accused were looking for a shipping container at the facilities of a container terminal at Basel-Landschaft. In addition to about 300 jute bags containing green coffee, the container was loaded with about 20 sacks containing, besides green coffee, and a total of about 500kg of cocaine.
The public prosecutor's office accuses the defendants of trying to recover cocaine, transport it and transfer it abroad.
Since they failed to find the container at the terminal in time and take possession of drugs, it was transported by train to the legitimate buyer ) a Nespresso factory in Romont, FR. Workers there discovered an unknown white substance while unloading bags of coffee beans.
The shipment had come from Brazil, Fribourg Cantonal Police announced. The Thass were isolated and the drugs did not come in contact with any of the products used in production”, police said.
An estimated 500kg of cocaine was found and reported to authorities. The purity of drugs was between 97% and 100%, albinfo.ch conveys. The public prosecutor's office estimates that the value of seized cocaine on the market would reach up to 60 million Swiss francs.
The decision is not yet legally binding. /Periscope.
