A 40-year-old Kosovo man attacked a 26-year-old Orthodox Jew with fists Monday, about 20:15 p.m. The riders managed to defeat the attacker, broadcast albinfo.ch. He's known for the police.
The 26-year-old Orthodox Jew had just left a house in Wiedikon and was walking down the sidewalk in the Manessestras when the assailant suddenly appeared and began punching him.
While he was holding his victim, some passersby intervened and beat the 40-year-old. They kept the Kosovo man until the police arrived. The man mentioned continued to make antisemitic and insulting remarks even after the police arrived, writes sda.ch.
The city police managed to arrest the attacker, reportedly in a report released Tuesday.
The attacker is known for the police, but not for similar criminal acts, police said after the investigation, records albinfo.ch. According to police, he does not have a regular address in Switzerland and has been handed over to the Public Prosecutor's Office.
According to the Federation of Hebrew Communities in Switzerland, the victim suffered scratch on the body and neck and is in shock. The attack was not a casual act but was directed specifically against a Jewish person.
This incident is part of a series of antisemitic attacks that have increased significantly in Switzerland since October 2023, the year of Hamas' attack on Israel. In March 2024 a young man of Tunian descent had attacked a Hebrew man with a knife in Zurich. /Albinfo. ch/ Periscopi/
