While both sides have signalled willingness to revive diplomacy over Tehran's long-standing nuclear dispute with the West, Washington wants talks to cover Iran's nuclear programme, its ballistic missiles, support for armed groups in the region, and “the treatment of their people”, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday, Reuters.
Iran has said it wants Foreign Minister Abbas Aracchi and US envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff to discuss only nuclear issues in Muscat.
“Iran entered diplomacy with an eye open and a constant memory of last year. We engage in trust and stand firm in our rights. The commitments should be respected”, Aracchi said on X Friday ahead of the talks.
