“ - The prosecution closes investigations against Martin Berisha.

The Constitutional Prosecutor in Pristina has confirmed to Albanian Post that the case, linked to the voting transfer procedure by the diaspora, has been closed, Periscopi broadcasts.

The prosecution in her response has indicated that the decision to close the investigation has been taken after the outcome of all investigative actions, including the collection of material evidence and the interview of relevant witnesses on the issue.

After reviewing all the information and evidence provided during the preliminary procedure, the State Prosecutor has compiled the report on the closure of the case, as there is no reasonable doubt that criminal acts have been carried out... the use of official position or authority, by Article 414 of the Republic of Kosovo Penal Code”, the prosecution's response is said.

Investigations began after media reports during the time of the regular elections, where Berisha allegedly intervened in the electoral process, taking his own envelopes from the diaspora to be sent later to the Kosovo Embassy in Zagreb.

The prosecution had accepted an informative report by police on February 25th of last year concerning the implementation of authorisations granted by the State Prosecutor, in the context of allegations raised against Berisha for the February 9th election process and the acceptance of votes through postal shipments.

However, this is not the only issue Berisha is investigating. He was interviewed in April 2024 by the Special Prosecutor over allegations of criminal acts “Money extract”, “Avoiding taxation” and “False withholding or reporting of income, gifts, other material benefits, or financial obligations”.

Medium has sent questions to the Special Prosecutor to learn about the performance of this process and when public opinion can expect a final epilog of the case, but until the publication of this article, he has not accepted answers from this institution.

Martin Berisha's case became public in April 2022, a few days before the parliamentary elections in Slovenia, following the publication of documents by a foreign agency to prevent money laundering. The documents raised doubts about numerous financial transfers from the GEN-I Belgrade energy company towards two Berisha-related companies registered in Kosovo and Montenegro, named MB Consulting.

According to reports, GEN-I Belgrade had transferred in some installments more than twom euros to Berisha's companies, while a significant portion of these means had allegedly been withdrawn into cash ready by Berisha himself.

The withdrawal of some 1.8m euros in cash raised questions about the destination of these funds and the nature of the services for which the payments were conducted.

Berisha has denied accusations of financial misuse, claiming the payments have been linked to consensus services and legitimate business activities.
