Hundreds of charges of misuse of vote, only 32 sentenced to prison

In recent weeks only dozens of commissioners, but even members of political parties have been sent to custody as suspects of misuse of the vote. Some for waxers during vote count and their processing and others for bribery.

The data from the Kosovo Judiciary Council shows that for people who have been exiting by vote, punishment over the years has been very mild.

The data about the executions filed in 2011 for offenders in relation to vote and election shows this:

Fifteen persons ended up in prison, 11 were sentenced on bail, 1 person was fined, while in 8 other cases, 5 people were sentenced to fines, while in 3 cases there is still no epilogue.

Actuals set up in 2012, no one was sent to prison for ballots. 1 person was sentenced on parole, yet for 28 cases there are no final epilogues, just as 5 charges filed in 2013 ended.

In 2014, according to KDR data, 5 people were sentenced on parole, while 3 cases were left without epilogue.

The year 2015 brought much accusation but little punishment. 56 defendants for misuse of the vote never received punishment because the cases were left without epilogue. Another 15 indictees were sentenced on bail, a person ended up behind bars, while in another case against the five defendants, only 2 counts were filed, which never received epilogue from the courts.

In 2016 there were only two charges against two people, one was on bail, and the other remained in the courtroom without epilogue, reports Dukajini television, broadcast Periscope.

A year later, in 2017, according to KRC data, the 13 charges filed by the Prosecution ended up back in the courtrooms, without epilogue.

Even the charges filed in 2018 produced few sentences -- out of 11 charged in some cases -- 10 were sentenced on bail, nine other charges never received epilogue, two were sentenced to fines and a parole sentence. Twelve were sent to prison.

63 charges filed in 2019 produced 20 cases without epilogue, 36 parole sentences, 5 fine sentences, and 5 prison sentences.

Even the 2020 indictments are almost the same average, 10 were left without epilogue, in 3 cases the abusers of the vote were sentenced to fine, 3 ended in prison, while 26 others were sentenced on parole.

The year 2021 was packed for the Prosecution, but 83 accused never received punishment from the Court, 88 were sentenced on bail, 7 were fined, 2 persons ended in prison.

Even in the following years, the situation is almost the same. More cases of parole and less prison sentences until most continued without epilogue, according to KDR data.

According to these data, from 2011 to last year, 2025 ) only 32 people ended up serving prison sentences from hundreds of cases of charges filed, but they are not all powerful.

Chapter 18 of the Kosovo Criminal Code, where criminal acts are listed against the right to vote, envisions sentences ranging from 6 months to 5 years in prison. /Periscope
