US Embassy: CEC decision on Serbian List undermines US-Kosovo partnership

The Central Election Commission's decision not to approve the list of Serb List MPs' candidates is “in opposition to the citizens' right to democraticly elect their representatives”.

Any attempt to violate this basic principle undermines partnership between the United States and Kosovo”, an American Embassy spokesman in Pristina told Radio Europe Free.

On 31 January, the CEC announced the final results of the December 28th early parliamentary elections. But during the meeting, members of the Commission approved lists of candidates of all parties, except for the Serb List -- the main party of Serbs in Kosovo having Belgrade's backing.

Three members of the CEC voted for, two against the Vetevendosje Movement, and other members abstained.

The Serbian list on February 2nd has complained to the Electoral Panel for Anex and Parastre about this CEC decision. / REL/ Periscopi/
