Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on February 12th that the decision was made due to the refusal of the owner of Whatsap, Meta, to abide by Russian laws.
According to him, Whatsapp can become operational in Russia, but that depends on respect for the law and willingness to engage in dialogue, Vedomoti reports.
“If whatsApp continues to ignore Moscow's demands, the chances of his return to Russia are zero,” Peskov added.
The reason for the impasse of WhatsApp, as experts explain, is not only a legal conflict with Meta Corporation, but also a technical conflict.
Roskomnandor equipment cannot also limit YouTube, Telegram and Whatsapp, so resources are released for more efficient blocking of the telegram, according to the RBK portal. Experts explain that the Telegram platform is much more resistant to deadlock than whatsApp thanks to its well-established infrastructure and strong encryption.
