This is part of increasingly tough measures against foreigners who have residence permits in the United States.
In a written response to the Associated Press, the U.S. State Department announced that all visa persons, including foreign tourists, are subject to continued control to see if they have done something that makes them inappropriate for U.S. entry or residence.
If such data is found, the visa will be removed, while if the visa holder is inside American territory, he or she will be expelled, the UN said.
Since US President Donald Trump took office, his administration has focused on expulsion of illegal immigrants to the US, but also those with student visas or visas for student exchange programmes.
Messages from the State Department show that the ongoing process of control, which, according to officials, takes a lot of time to intensify significantly. This means that even those who already have permission to stay in the United States may be unexpectedly removed.
According to Internal Security Department data, last year there have been 12.8 million people with “reen card” and 3.6 million temporary visas.
The figure of 55 million suggests that some of the people under control could be located outside the US with tourist visas, said Julia Gelatt of the Migration Policy Institute. It questioned the value of resource spending for persons who may never return to the US again.
The UN stressed that it focuses on inadequacy indicators, including attitude beyond visa deadlines, criminal activities, the risk of public order, involvement in terrorist activities or support of terrorist organisations.
“We review any available information during the process of control, including police data, immigration agencies or any other information that could be released after the visa is issued and that may indicate inadequacy”, the State Department said.
Also, the US will ban issuing working visas for commercial truck drivers, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on August 21st on the X network.
The extension of the number of foreign drivers driving large trailer trucks on American highways is endangering American citizens' lives and damaging the profit opportunities for American truck drivers”, Rubio wrote. / REL/
