At least 27 people have lost their lives in the devastating floods that hit the Kerr County in Texas, caused by heavy rainfall.
Nine of the victims are children, and 18 are adults.
Among the victims is Renee Smeystrala, a 9-year-old girl who was staying at a summer camp in the area whose loss was confirmed by her parents.
The tragedy has included at least 20 other girls, who were in the same camp and who are still missing. Authorities have launched a wide search and rescue operation in an attempt to find them, while fear of their fate is increasing from hour to hour, reports TopChannel. Transmitt Periscope.
The mystic camp, a popular camp for Christian girls located near the Guadalupe River, has been completely destroyed by floods. Over 700 children were there at the time of the disaster. According to the National Weather Service, the level of the Guadalupe River increased by about 30 feet [8 m] in less than an hour, due to a third of the average annual rainfall in the area.
Local officials have named the situation “life threatening”, while emergencies are still under way and assistance is being co-ordinated for residents and campers affected by catastrophic flooding. /Periscope/
