Meghan Markle found that she had difficulty finding work before reaching success with the Swits series because of the lack of roles for those with racial mix.
In an interview for Emma Grade's Aspire podcast, Markle explained how she learned to cope with rejections during her first career as an actress. She described this period as a <x0-capture full of doubts about herself”.
I was an actress who was involved in auditions and this was way ahead of Sweets and you have to understand that there wasn't a lot of roles for people with racial mixers at the time, said Markle.
If I was auditioning, it was usually for one of two kinds of roles. You should remember this was a very different time from now. This role usually required a girl with blond hair, blue eyes, and a certain view, but because I am half white, I was included in auditions for those roles, reports the report. Telegraph, broadcast Periscope.
And then, if the role was for a character of some ethnic background, those roles always had some sort of oversize or something strong, but they also represented me. Moreover, many of the people who arrange actors thought I was Latin”.
Markle, who hasn't performed for years and has now focused on her series on Netflix and lifestyle company, said this was a “number game” that often resulted in dozens of rejections by the Casting leaders.
She added: “This erodes much self-confidence. It's very difficult. I passed a chapter with doubts about myself as an actress in auditions and then beyond. Being busy with what others think of you can be a very difficult way to live. ”
Markle talked about this period of her career. In an opinion on Ele magazine in 2015, she said:
I wasn't black enough to reflect coloured persons, nor was it white enough for white characters, staying somewhere in the middle as an ethnic chameleon that couldn't provide work”. /Periscope
