OEK calls for suspension of the electricity expensive decision

The Kosovo Economic Oda (OEK) has asked the country's institutions to postpone at least one year the decision to exit the free electricity market for businesses. Economic Ode leader Lulzim Rafuna said businesses have begun to receive first bids and first thing [...]
Economic Ode leader Lulzim Rafuna said businesses have started to receive first bids, and the first thing that has been observed is the price far higher than they have paid so far.
The first options that have come to all businesses, in all sectors are more than 200 percent more expensive than the electricity price they have received to date, Rafuna said.
The Energy Regulatory Office (ZRRE) has made the decision since 1 June all major companies -- namely, more than 50 employed or with annual circulation of over 10m euros -- to pass on the open energy market.
According to the ZERE, their number is over 1,000.
Currently, these businesses are supplied by the power supply operator (KESCO), as the main supplier licensed for energy at prices regulated by the ZRE.
While on June 1st, large companies must choose their own supplier, at unregulated prices, which are determined by demand and market bids.
Rafuna said this decision should be postponed for at least a year, as according to him, it would put out many businesses.
“We have requested that free market exit be postponed and a 16.1 per cent increase be suspended because there are possible mechanisms and there are mechanisms for the government to subsidize or even find other ways to help business get through this period of non-recognition on the free market 2010x1>, Rafuna said.
Currently, 18 companies on Kosovo's free market are licensed, which provide electricity supplies -- most of which are from Kosovo, but also companies from the region.
On 1 May new tariffs have become effective, with a 16.1 percent increase.
These fees will also apply to businesses that have under 50 employees or under 10m euros in circulation. Through a media conference, the Democratic Party of Kosovo has also criticised rising electricity prices.
Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Ferat Shala called the rise in the selective price and said it harms citizens.
The new Parliamentary Framework to be introduced will use all parliamentary mechanisms to examine any action and inaction in energy sector management”, Shala stressed. /REL/
