Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan invited US President Donald Trump to Ankara during a call between the two leaders, Turkey's Communication Directorate announced.
During the meeting, according to the same report, bilateral relations between Turkey and the US were discussed, as well as regional and global issues.
Erdogan said Turkey would continue to take steps to boost co-operation with the United States in many areas, especially in the defence industry.
According to Turkish presidency announcement, Erdogan avoided repeating Turkish objections to the US's role in Syria, welcoming their efforts to ease sanctions against Syria.
Regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine, the Turkish president expressed his support for Trump's approach to end the wars and that he praised the process of negotiations with Iran and efforts under way to end the Russia-Ukrainian war.
Erdogan also referred to the Middle East, stressing that Turkey is willing to co-operate and provide all sorts of support to achieve a ceasefire and ensure lasting peace in Gaza.
As reported by the Turkish presidency, Trump described the conversation as productive and referred to Erdogan's invitation to visit Turkey, also extending an invitation to the Turkish leader to visit Washington./Periscopi/
