He also urged European Union states that the Schengen visa practice restricting the movement of Turkish Turks and goods, to be revised, writes A2 CNN.
I wanted to thank my dear friend Edi Rama and all those who have contributed to the organisation of this summit. We are gathered together to discuss a new vision that will redefine our continent. It is important that we act together. To overcome the crisis of trust in the international arena, it is necessary to create a just and comprehensive global architecture of governance.
This should start first in our home on the European continent. There is tremendous potential for cooperation, in areas such as the defence industry, energy, transportation corridors, digital markets and critical minerals. There are many areas so we can cooperate. In these critical times when we discuss the future of European security, EU efforts to develop its defence industry are truly beneficial.
We also believe that these efforts should include even allies who are not members of the EU, in such a way that it does not influence or erode NATO's essential role. This could be in the best interest of European security. Many wars and conflicts in Europe have shown us that for protection or security, if we are divided, we become weaker and if we unite, we become stronger.
Turkey has an economic size of 1.3 trillion US dollars, a dynamic population of 85 million, and a direct approach to consumer markets. The generalisation of the customs union with the EU will contribute to the safety of supply chains. Visa practices like Schengen, which limit the movement of our people and goods, must be revised. With our investments in gas production in recent years, we are turning our country into a country with high energy weight of”, Erdogan said, among other things.
