Born on January 5, 1939, in Drnova, Korca, Milkan was one of the first cinematography cinematography cinematists, performing films that remained in our memory and hearts.
Piro Milkan was one of the most important figures in Albanian cinematography, with a long career and extraordinary contribution to the art of the recorder. He will be remembered as a loving and respected personality not only for talent but also for love and devotion to art and family.
After finishing high school in his hometown, he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Czechoslovakia, where he graduated as a film operator. During his years of studies, he performed his graduation film, Nenavist (Recognition), which marked the beginning of a successful career in cinematography.
Upon returning to Albania, Milkan began work in Kinostudion “New Albania” as operator and then director. It has carried out over 20 feature films, including titles known as The Triumph over Death (1967), War Village (1974), Lady of the City (1976), Militanti (1984), Spring Sãod only (1988) and the Sadening of Mrs. Schnader (2006).
For his extraordinary contribution to Albanian cinematography, Milkan has been honoured with numerous titles and awards, including the title “Popular Artist” (1987) and the medal “Embassy of Albanian Film” by the Albanian Ministry of Culture.
His loss is a major wound to Albanian culture.
