A powerful 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck Istanbul shortly after Wednesday's noon, with the epic on the Marmara Sea at a depth of 7km, extending for about 13 seconds.
According to Turkey's Interior Minister Ali Yerlicaya's statement, the episode was 24km off the coast of Silivri, and the earthquake has felt strongly in Istanbul and in surrounding towns.
By 15:12, there were a total of 51 afternoons, where the strongest was 5.9 magnitude. About 6,100 calls have been reported at the 112 Emergency Call Center, mainly for information.
Minister Yerlicaya stressed that there are no reports of life loss or injury, while no housing collapses have been found. Rescue and civil protection structures have been activated immediately and search on the ground continues. Also, there are no damage to power and infrastructure networks.
