Ruboi told Szijartos that Rogan was removed from the Treasury Department's list of sanctions, Bruce said through an announcement, adding that continuing to keep it on the list of sanctions is not in line with US foreign policy interests.
The two top diplomats have also talked about strengthening the US-Hungary alignment on critical issues and economic co-operation opportunities, Bruce said.
Orban and his party, Fidesz, have been among the most vocal supporters in Europe of American President Donald Trump.
Earlier this year, Washington announced on January 7th of sanctions on Rogan under suspicions that he was involved in corruption, saying he “used his role to enrich himself and his party's loyalty”.
The then US Ambassador to Hungary, David Pressman, had declared that systemic <x0-corruption is affecting Hungary's decision making on issues affecting US security and our allies”.
Pressman left the ambassadorial post before Trump took office on January 20th.
The Orban government, which has called sanctions on Rogan as “the personal act of Ambassador”, has welcomed Washington's new announcement of the removal of sanctions, saying this is “a clear indication that things have changed to Washington”.
Hungarian Government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs wrote on X that the decision “confirms the change of American politics with the return of Trump, undoing decisions Hungary views as unfair decisions that have been taken in retaliation”. /Periscope/
