A resolution was presented at the US Congress by Democrat congressers and Republicans, seeking to honour the survival of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo, Vasfije Krasniqi-Goodman, and also seeks to end the impunity for war crimes committed by Serbian forces.
Resolution submitted by Congresswoman Julie Johnson, while sponsored by other conventioners like Keith Self, Ritchie Torres, Jim McGovern, Marc Veasey, Alexander Ocasio-Cortez, George Latier, Mike Lawler and Ilhan Omar.
The Vasfie Force has inspired many people worldwide, but justice for what it has never endured has come. This resolution sends a clear message: the international community should not look away from war crimes. Survivors deserve responsibility no silence. It's not just about what happened 25 years ago it's about what we're willing to do now to protect human rights, empower survivors and tell the truth”, Congresswoman Johnson said.
Vasfije Krasniqi has thanked congressmen for the resolution
The resolution calls on the Government of Kosovo to keep pledges to survivors and prioritize unresolved cases of sexual violence from the 1999 war. The government of Serbia is called on to prosecute those responsible for sexual crimes during the war. It pressures the US government to exalt Vasfije Krasniqi-Goodman's case in diplomatic commitments with Serbia and strengthen US efforts to prevent gender-based violence at a global level.
“This resolution is evidence of a steadfast commitment to justice and accountability for the 20,000 survivors of sexual crimes during the war in Kosovo. Thank you for your continued support of the survivors in our quest for justice and accountability, and we are eager to shift this legislation to the Foreign Affairs Commission and even further”, Vasfije Krasniqi said.
The co-versary of the resolution is Vera Medic.
Vasfije Krasniqi-Goodman wrote on Facebook for Resolution 26, thanking both congressmen who presented it as well as co-versar Vera Medic.
Also, for Resolution, Feride Rushiti, the director of the Kosovar Centre for the Security of Torture Survivors has written.
