Katy Perry uploaded a video just before her space trip. Six women, including a pop star, an activist, a journalist and a former missile scientist, will make history today taking part in the first space mission, entirely female, in nearly 60 years.
The mission is directed by the founder of Amazon Jeff Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez, who personally selected the crew of the Blue Origin mission, writes tch, follows Periscope.
The popular singer in the video she has posted has indicated that there are more than an hour and five minutes to launch, stressing that she is excited and has received unlimited love. At the same time, she announced her fans that after her trip she would charge a discovery.
Speaking recently of Ella, Sanchez explained it was she who chose individuals to participate based on their proven ability to inspire.” Its goal, as she said, is for every member of the crew to share their experience with the public and strengthen the role of women in exploring space.
Besides Perry, the crew also includes the Gayle King TV host, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, former rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, director Karen Flynn and, of course, Sanchez himself. This is the first entirely female mission since 1963, when Russian cosmonaut Valentina Tereskova traveled alone to space as part of the Soviet space programme.
Six women will board the New Shepard missile for an 11-minute flight that will travel 100 kilometers on Earth border space, as internationally defined. The launch will take place in West Texas, as part of the NS-31 mission of the New Shepard Blue Origin programme.
