Kelly Ortberg said two planes had already returned and another would follow after escalation of trade tensions between the two countries.
Boeing's executive chief told CNBC that 50 other planes would go to China this year, but their clients had indicated they would not deliver them.
The US set 145% tariff for imports from China and retaliated with a 12% tax on American products, reports BBC, broadcast Periscope.
Speaking at the Oval Office on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump said he was optimistic about improving trade relations with China, saying that the level of tariffs he had set would be <x0line significantly, but there would be zero”.
However, Ortberg said China “has actually halted the delivery of aircraft due to the tariffor” environment.
Boeing is America's biggest exporter with about 70% of its commercial aircraft sales abroad.
Ortberg said Boeing was praising options to re-trade 41 aircraft already built on other customers, as there was high demand from other airlines.
He said there were nine planes that were not yet in Boeing's production system, and he wanted “to understand their goals and, if necessary, we could assign other clients”.
He added that Boeing “will not continue to build planes for customers that will not receive them”. /Periscope/
