Inside America's “

One of the most contaminated areas of radioactivity in the United States, Hanford Site in Washington State, is being named as a “Cernobil subterranean” and waiting “x3>. But despite the risks, the American government is considering the possibility of turning it into a centre for artificial intelligence development, Periscopi explains. Hanford was built during the war [...]
Hanford was built during World War II as part of the Manhattan Project, where the plutonium was produced for the bombing on Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. At that time, over 55 thousand workers worked in the area, most not knowing they were part of a nuclear project.
According to Washington's Department of Ecology, there are 177 bank deposits under the ground containing over 212 million gallons [212 million L] of radioactive waste. Moreover, more than 1,514 trillion gallons [1,514 trillion L] of polluted fluids have been poured into the ground, carrying pollution to the Columbia River.

In 1985, the Ringold agricultural community near the area was baptized “death family” because of the high number of cancers caused by exposure to radioactive iodine 131. Meanwhile, many residents of Richmond are considered “downs”, exposed to pollution because of the winds carrying radioactive particles, writes A2 CNN.
The area continued to produce plutonium even during the Cold War until 1989, when an inspector sounded the alarm and reported before Congress. After closing, the “agreement was signed Three-Parry” between EPA, Energy Department and Ecology Department to start cleaning up. But despite three decades of effort and a budget of $2 billion a year, pollution continues.

Seven out of nine reactors have been introduced into “con”, a method that isolates them for 75 years until radiation reduction. But at least 67 underground deposits are leaking, releasing dangerous substances.
Unexpectedly, the U.S. Department of Energy is now proposing Hanford as one of 16 areas for the construction of infrastructure for artificial intelligence, writes A2. If the project is approved, construction will begin within this year and completion is projected at 2027.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright called the race for AI as the new Manhattan” <x0 project, warning that the US will also lead this technological revolution, but in a country that still guards the wounds of its first nuclear weapons. (A2 Television)
