British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said he is working with French President Emmanuel Macron about a peace plan for Ukraine, which he will present to US President Donald Trump.
This, after a catastrophic meeting of the Trump with Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky, in the White House, where in the world's eyes there was a heated debate of harsh tones that led to the dissolution of an agreement agreed on rare minerals.
Starmer said that after discussions with Zelensky, Trump and Macron, there has been an agreement that Great Britain, along with France, and “perhaps one or two more” will work with Kiev to stop the war. He said this peace plan will be presented in the US.
Starmer added that he thinks Trump wants to see a lasting peace in Ukraine, despite his rhetoric and attitude towards Zelensky.
The “all agree to this, except for Putin”, he told the BBC. With “sustainable peace”, Starmer means a “support of the US”, along with “the security reserves” provided by European countries and a strong “Ukraine” armed with protective capacity to resist Russian occupation.
Starmer says the worst of all results is for Russia to break the terms of a agreed ceasefire agreement.
I'm clear that if there's going to be a deal, if there's going to be a fighting ban, then that deal has to be protected, because the worst of all results is that there's a temporary pause and then Putin” comes back.
This happened in the past. I think it's a real risk, and that's why we have to make sure that if there's a deal, it's a stable agreement, not a temporary pause”, he mentioned.
Starmer mentions that no “besson” Vladimir Putin, saying the Russian president will re-enter “if given the chance. That's why critical needs arise for “the security fund”, the prime minister of the United Kingdom said.
Starmer said he trusts both, like Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump.
He was asked in the BBC interview if Zelensky “has done anything wrong” and Starmer said he had not, adding that the Ukrainian president has courageously served his country as wartime leader since Russia's full invasion in February 2022.
