German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said one of the points of focus for allies would be to ensure that Ukraine has a strong army when the war ends so that it can be protected against any future aggression.
Olaf Scholz described today's meeting as worth “ ” after stressing the opportunity to reaffirm support for Ukraine.
“Basa of everything will be a strong army”, he told reporters after the meeting of European leaders in London.
Those words come after UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged European leaders to unite at this once-in-a-life moment for Europe's security.
He also said that achieving a good result for Ukraine is <x0-theretic to the security of any nation participating in the summit of the many”.
The Chancellor said he and Friedrich Merz, the winner of last week's elections, were in touch despite his failure to attend the summit.
Reuters earlier reported that talks to form Germany's new government were considering the creation of two funds worth hundreds of billions of euros for defence and infrastructure. The hope is that these funds will be approved by March, before the new government takes office, though no decision has been finalised. /tch
