Istanbul's chief political rival Erdogan arrested

Turkish authorities have arrested President Recep Erdogan's main political rival, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, Reuters reports, broadcast Periscopi. Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, of the Republican People's Party (CHP), faces two separate investigations that also include charges of running a criminal organisation, bribery and tender manipulation.
Imamoglu reacted to the social network X, writing that hundreds of police officers were in front of his home, adding that he would not give up and would continue to remain strong in the face of this pressure.
In addition to Imamoglu's arrest, Turkish authorities have ordered the arrest of about 100 other suspects, including journalists and businessmen, under the same corruption investigation.
