Secretary - General NATO, Mark Rutte, is on a visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina and has said that the Alliance is committed to peace there, while speaking after meeting with Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency members Zeljko Cvianovic, Denis Becirovic and Zeljko Komsic.
Three decades after the Dayton Accord, NATO remains strongly committed to stability and security in this region. I have three key messages I want to convey to everyone, but one of them is the most important. First of all, NATO is strongly committed to Bosnia and Herzegovina. NATO fully supports Bosnia and Herzegovina's sovereignty and territorial integrity”, Rutte said at the beginning of his speech, reports Klux. ba.
He also spoke about the situation in BiH, stopping especially in the crisis caused by the authorities' actions in Republika Srpska.
The Dayton Peace Agreement is the cornerstone of peace in this country and must be respected. We support the Office of the High Representative (OHR). Any action that undermines the Dayton Agreement, constitutional order or state institutions is unacceptable. The rhetoric and promotional actions are dangerous because they pose a major threat to Bosnia and Herzegovina's stability and security. After all, it is up to the political leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina to take responsibility, and these are you three. There's no other option, you have to do this. This was my key message, this country is looking to you three, ”, he said, addressing members of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency.
Rutte confirmed that NATO will stay close to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the event of an escalation of the situation.
I have concerns about the security situation, but this is not 1992 and we will not allow a security vacuum. The international community is here and is committed to continuing our strong support, whether through EUFOR or NATO. I know EUFOR is fully ready to preserve a safe and stable environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We will not allow peace, achieved with much difficulty, to be put in jeopardy, and NATO will continue to support you on your Euro-Atlantic path, in which you are making progress. We are doing this together with our international partners, with the European Union and High Representative”, he stressed.
He reiterated that resolving the current situation depends on Bosnia and Herzegovina politicians.
Political “Liders should do their part of the job. The region will benefit from a stable commitment to stability and peace. I stress the same for all actors in the region. We are committed to our co-operation and want to see our partnership grow and progress. We are willing to build and develop a lasting co-operation between NATO and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It would be great if you could invest more in Bosnia and Herzegovina's Armed Forces. We are keeping pace with you and in line with your sovereign decisions. Your sovereignty and territorial integrity are essential for the security and stability of this region. Bosnia and Herzegovina can count on full support for NATO”, Rutte said.
In conclusion, he repeated his most important message, stressing that members of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency “have the opportunity to resolve this” situation and that this is their “tification with history”.
