US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has said the United States is committed to building a “Stronger NATO”, but wants to ensure that “the dedication of Europeans and Canada to Article 3 is just as powerful”.
This article means spending at least two percent of the gross domestic product for protection. The US under Donald Trumpin has demanded that spending increase to 5 percent “emergency”, time.net report.
“NATO is a wonderful alliance, the most successful defence alliance in history, but to stay for the future, our partners have to do much more for Europe's defence. We should do it. Large NATO again”, Hegseth has said after the NATO defence ministers' meeting Thursday in Brussels.
Hegseth has also refused to say that the US is making concessions to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
