Erion Veliaj, who was arrested in the municipal office on February 10th on charges of passive corruption and money laundering, arrived today at the JKKO premises for reassessing the safety measure.
Former prosecutor Blidar Bejko said on the Euronews Albania's paper that if charges against the mayor are proven, he risks 10-12 years in prison minimal.
Until 12 years in prison, you can be convicted of passive corruption, I know there are 5 or 6 episodes. Risks are too high when they repeat themselves, we also have a crime of money laundering. The logic is that there's been an illegal act that has to be cleaned up in order to benefit. For these two, we have a minimum sentence of 1012 years, and it could prove innocent. It will be a long road that will last for the years”, the former prosecutor said. /euronews
