A senior US NATO Mission official has told Gazeta Express that even Defence Secretary Hagseth in the past week has said there have been decisions dealing with the level of American troops.
“We are not aware of any discussion, and as Secretary Hegseth said last week there have been no decisions dealing with the level of troops”, this senior US NATO mission official has said.
It was the German newspaper “BILD” has reported yesterday that European security institutions are alarmed at the possibility of reducing American troops in Europe. This media had specifically mentioned Kosovo, saying Italy is also preparing for a possible withdrawal of American troops from Kosovo.
As this newspaper wrote, this would lead to a situation where European allies would be alone in the Balkans “against Putin's friend Aleksandar Vuciq and his powerful Serbian army”.
The issue of American troops' presence in Europe has been discussed Tuesday by White House chief Donald Trump. At a media conference asked whether he is willing to withdraw American troops from Europe as part of the deal between Russia and Ukraine, Turmp has said no one has asked him to do so.
I don't think we're gonna have to do this. I wouldn't want to do that. But this issue has never been raised” has declared Trump.
According to KFOR official website, the US has 602 soldiers in Kosovo and is one of the states with the highest number of forces.
