At the KFOR camp in Novosell, the EULEX Specialised Unit and the Specialised Reserve Police Unit have held a drill about ten days ago in the event of the need for “deployment of the order”.
They also underwent medical evacuation training “in situations that require a rapid reaction”. The “control of the crowd and riots” were also carried out by KFOR members.
A meeting regarding police engagement in implementing the operational plan on Election Day has been held at the Kosovo Police Directorate yesterday, attended by KFOR representatives, EULEX, the OSCE, the American Embassy and the EU Office in Kosovo.
“A part of the discussion was the creation of a quiet and secure atmosphere so that all citizens can freely exercise their right to vote”, the police report said.
Police Deputy Director for the Northern Region Veton Elshani said an operational plan has been established for election day, both for the entire Kosovo in general and for the north in particular.
“The voting centres are assigned by the CEC, we are monitoring them and we are willing to intervene at any time if necessary. The situation is calm”, Elshani said.
