Researchers from FitRated took samples from 27 equipment in the gym and discovered more than a million germs per square inch in each of them. Bacteria, such as the gram-positive heads that can cause skin infections, and the gram-netats, resistant to antibiotics, were discovered in footbands, training bicycles and cheap weights.
In particular, cheap weights contained 362 times more bacteria than a toilet seat, while footbands had 74 times more bacteria than a tap in a public toilet.
The study points out that bacteria spread easily in gym equipment because of frequent use by many individuals. While many gyms offer disinfectant napkins, users often forget to clean equipment before and after use.
Experts recommend disinfecting equipment, practicing good hygiene, avoiding facial touch, and washing hands carefully to reduce exposure to germs. Additional security is advised to change gym clothing immediately after training./Periscopi/
