The studio published the news in Instagram.
“Hello Hollywood. #HeloKittyMovie is coming to the movies on July 21st 2028!”, says the joint posting of “ner Bros” and “New Line Cinema”.
Details of history have not yet been revealed, but the scenario was written by Dana Fox, known for the film “Wicked”, while producer Beau Flynn, with Shelby Thomas overseeing the project for the company “Flyn Picture Company”.
The character Hello Kitty was created in 1974 by artist Yuko Shimizu as a British white cat named Kitty White, known for its red ribbon. Since then, it has become a global icon of animated serials and multiple product lines.
Movie plans have been discussed for over a decade. Since 2015 it was reported that “Sanrio” was looking to fit it for the big screen, and in 2019 The Hollywood Reporter announced that “Line” and “FlynnPicture Company” were developing an English-language film.
This was the first time that Hello Kitty and other characters like Goodetama, My Melody and Little Town Stars were licensed for a large Hollywood studio.
