Charlucci Finney, who knows Combs for more than 30 years, told the Daily Mail that a prisoner at the Metropolitan Paraburg Centre (MDC) in Brooklyn allegedly entered the Diddy cell and put an improvised knife in his throat.
“He woke up with a knife to his throat”, Finney said, recalling what he described as a terrible crash. “I don't know whether he pushed or the guards came, only that it happened. ”
Finney, who has been standing by the Combs since his arrest and trial, believes the attack was not an odd act of violence, but an orchestrated warning.
If this guy wanted to hurt her, Sean would have been hurt. It would take just a second to slit his throat with a gun and to kill”, he added. “Possibly was a way to say: Next time you won't be so lucky. It's all fear. But with Shane, it's not gonna work. Sean's from Harlem. ”
The alleged incident underscores the brutal conditions in the MDC, a facility known for lack of personnel, attacks and arms smuggling. Diddy has been held there for more than a year as part of his 50-month prison sentence following sentences on prostitution-related charges.
During the trial, defence lawyer Brian Steel warned that the rapper faced real threats from other prisoners. Steel told the court that an armed prisoner with a ship had been captured by guards before reaching Diddy, claiming the attacker was “trying to gain prestige” by hurting the high profile defendant.
For Finny, these warnings were more than legal rhetoric. He is convinced that his friend has become an object for both bad fame and dissatisfaction.
Diddy's legal team is now asking judges Arun Summanian to recommend his transfer to FCI Fort Dix, a lower security prison in New Jersey. They have argued that this move would give Combes access to substance abuse programmes and family visits, keeping him away from Brooklyn prison chaos.
A change of location would also bring relief to Finny, who said he has been plagued by anxiety since learning about threats.
“Sean has kept many of these things to himself because he will not bother his family”, Finney said.
