The decision comes a day after the new American leader pledged to hit the EU on tariffs.
Puzder was nominated to be Secretary of the Labour Department during the first administration of Trump, but withdrew amid concerns that he could not secure enough votes in the Senate to be confirmed.
President Trump says the trade deficit between the US and the EU is at disturbing levels.
The European Union is very, very bad for us”, he said Tuesday, repeating comments made the day he took office.
“The tariffs are the only way to have justice”.
President Trump voiced his concern over tariffs during comments to reporters at the White House after taking office, but did not immediately impose tariffs as he promised during his campaign. He has also threatened with Mexico, Canada and China tariffs.
“Andy will do an excellent job representing the interests of our nation in this important region”, the president said, as he announced his appointment for US ambassador to the EU.
When appointed as Labour Secretary during the first administration of Trump, Pusder was at the centre of a whirlwind of controversy, complaints, and possible conflicts.
In 2017, Pusder admitted that he and his wife had hired a undocumented person.
He also faced a host of complaints and legal issues raised by employees against his businesses.
