Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated US President-elect Donald Trump on Monday for his inauguration.
In a televised address to his national security council, he has also acknowledged Trump's desire to resume contacts with Russia and previous remarks by the president chosen to do everything possible to prevent a third world war, reports the BBC.
“Of course, we welcome this stance and congratulate the newly inaugurated US president for taking office”, Putin has said.
The Kremlin leader has added that he is open to dialogue with the Trump administration for the war in Ukraine, and that his position is that there should not be a temporary truce “, but rather a long-term <x2-peace based on respecting the legitimate interests of all”.
