International Journalists' Federation: KPM must remain free of political influence

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has reacted to recent developments that took place in the Independent Media Commission, where the new chairman has been elected, although the old mayor, Jeton Mehmeti, had a mandate in just a few days. In this response, the International Federation of Journalists says the Independent Media Commission should remain free of political influence in order to maintain the mandate to preserve media freedom.
“The IFJ shared the same concern with AGK for the accelerated process of selecting the KMP chairman. The KMP must remain at large from political influence to maintain the mandate of media freedom defender”, said in response.
Regarding developments at the KPM, days ago media lawyer Butter Kosari, who had published a document where KPM Board member Luljet Aliu had sought extraordinary meetings for the election of the new chairman and deputy chairman.
Kusari had named it a power attempt to capture the Independent Media Commission.
