This year's announcement of candidates for the prestigious film award was scheduled for Friday, January 17th, but nominations for Oscar will be unveiled on January 19th. The vote on nearly 10,000 members of the Academy, which opened on January 8th, has also been postponed by two days, until Tuesday on January 14th.
In a letter sent to members Wednesday, Academy Executive Director Bill Kramer said: “We want to express our deepest condolences to those affected by devastating fires throughout southern California. Many of our industry members and colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area and we're thinking about you..”
The last fire went off in Hollywood Hills, near Hollywood Avenue and Hollywood Walk of Fame, late Wednesday afternoon. The fires caused slaughter on residents of Los Angeles as well as the local film and television industry.
Also, the nominations of the American Writers' Team (WGA) will not be developed as scheduled Thursday, January 9th.
The fire banned television production, as FilmLA, which releases shooting permits in Los Angeles, issued a warning that “staff resources usually available to support film production may not be available during a local emergency”.
