Moldovan state broadcaster TVM has confirmed it is withdrawing from this year's Eurovision, which will be held at Basel.
According to foreign media, the news comes just days after the country conducted auditions for national finals and it seems those auditions played a major role in their decision.
Specifically, the director of the network “Moldova 1”, Cornelius Durnescu, said the lack of quality “created a negative” perception of Eurovision.
The decision was not easy, but needed in the current context. This year's national selection highlighted several challenges, including declining public interest and the overall quality of songs and artistic performance. This created a negative perception of experts and the public, stressing the need for a significant reform in the selection process”, he said.
Switzerland will be the host of the 69th Eurovision edition. The race will be held in St. Jacobshalle at Basel. The semifinal nights will take place on 13 May and 15 May, while the grand finale is scheduled on Saturday 17 May.
