Secretary - General NATO, Mark Rutte, has called for considerable growth of European investments in defence during the word in the European Parliament. He stressed that the security he currently enjoys cannot be guaranteed with existing capacities.
Rutte voiced confidence that the United States of America will continue its dedication to NATO, but also acknowledged the position of US President-elect Donald Trump, that European countries should invest more in defence.
Chief NATO called a “impossible to create European NATO” Without the United States, at least for the next two decades. According to him, such an initiative would require European countries to share about 8 per cent of GDP for defence, a very high figure compared to current investments.
