The White House has called on Russia's President Vladimir Putin of “to intervene in” in the presidential election in the United States after he expressed his support for US Vice President Kamala Harris.
Speaking at the Eastern Eurasian Forum in the Russian town of Vadicevostok on Thursday, Putin said Moscow prefers Harris to win the November elections in the US, according to the Meduza portal.
Our favorite “was [Joe] Beden. He retired from the race, but he recommended support for Harris. And, we're gonna do this. We will support him”, Putin said.
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby responded by saying Putin “should not support anyone in any way”.
Kirby added that the only people who have to decide who the future president should be are American citizens.
“We would appreciate it if Putin... no longer talks about the elections and doesn't mix on them”, Kibry stressed.
A day earlier, the United States filed charges against two managers of a Russian state television and accused the Kremlin of conducting a secret operation to intervene in the November US presidential elections.
Prosecutor General Merrick Garland said that RT television -- formerly known as Russia Today -- and its two Moscow-based managers have orchestrated “a scheme worth $10m to create and distribute content to American citizens with secret Russian government messages”.
A month ago, US Deputy General General Lisa Monaco said in a speech that Russia was the main threat to US elections.
American citizens will vote November 5th in the presidential election.
Former American President Donald Trump is a Republican candidate in the race, while US Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to be declared a candidate of the Democrats. /rel
