On Thursday, the initial hearing in the trial of former Kosovo Energy Corporation chief Nagip Krasniqi, who is suspected of criminal activity “due to the use of official office”.
Krasniqi was arrested on April 19th last year, following raids conducted by the Special Investigation Unit at his office in KEK and his two residences. Until September, he remained in custody. After his release, it was banned to approach the KEK facility in 50 meters.
Krasniqi was appointed head of KEK in October 2021.
The Act set up against the former KEK chief is fully separated from the investigation for which he was arrested last year.
Following the arrest of allegations of misuse of official office in two contracts, the State Prosecutor has begun investigating Krasniqi for energy trade with a Slovenian company that had no license from the Energy Regulatory Office to operate in Kosovo. From documents that were seized last year and from reviewing online communications, Krasniqi has been reported that the company selling electricity to Kosovo had no licenses, but has continued working with it.
