European Union diplomacy chief Josep Borrell has announced the meeting with Western Balkan leaders at the New York UN General Assembly margins.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti is staying there, but at this meeting the country was represented by President Vjosa Osmani.
“It was a pleasure to host the leaders of the Western Balkans for our traditional meeting in ANGA79”, Borrell wrote in a Facebook post.
He said that “the achievement of the malicious influence that undermines reform efforts in the region shows that we should co-operate even closer”.
Together, we will create a safer and more prosperous EU”, Borrell wrote.

The EU, in pre-launched communiqué, said this meeting was “a case for exchanging views on issues of common interest, beyond enlargement, on global security and stability issues”.
“Discusing focused on pressing geopolitical challenges, especially the harmful impact of Russian aggression against Ukraine and China's efforts to expand its economic impact. High Representative Borrell and Western Balkan leaders discussed the importance of strengthening sustainability, stressing the need for strategic harmonisation with the European Union to preserve regional stability”, the communique said.
Borrell was quoted as saying that the Western “Balkan is an integral part of Europe's future and that “EU membership is within reach, provided key reforms are pursued with new focus”.
“Takim was an opportunity to remember the need to resolve existing bilateral disputes. High Representative Borrell underlined the importance of good neighbourly relations achieved through dialogue and compromise as essential steps towards EU integration. Leaders must make bold and strategic decisions to advance their European aspirations”, the communique says.
In addition to Osman, Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama, Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Chairman Denis Becirovic, North Macedonia President Gordana Silljanovska-David and Montenegrin Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanovic.
